Tweed, a truly season-less cloth.

Can I wear tweed in Spring and Summer?  It’s a question I am often asked. And yes is the answer I will give.

We all know tweed is an elegant and classic choice for Autumn and Winter, especially robust Harris tweeds and Estate tweeds and we don’t think twice about wearing it.  Am I crazy to suggest it’s a great choice for the warmer months too? Possibly not the greatest choice on a baking hot 30 degree day in July, but in May and June days when the sun plays hide and seek and the air blows warm, then chill, I believe a light weight tweed is the perfect cloth.

Just as you’d sling on a sweater when the temperature drops why not try a cheeky waistcoat, an elegant poncho or a stylish short jacket.  And with (fingers crossed) country shows and events opening up across the summer there will be countless opportunities to rock the look.

There are some beautiful summer tweed colours from pinks to lilacs to pale greens, with and without check in a range of summer tweeds from lambswool to lightweight shetland herringbones. We have a beautiful lilac lambswool twill and a gorgeous aqua shetland in our range for summer.

Unsure how to wear - I have some suggestions.

Try a  short tweed skirt worn with a white tee and deck shoes for an iconic look, and our Suzy Heather back pleat skirt is a fabulous example of this look. It's a beautiful blue pink lightweight shetland tweed and looks fab with a white tee or our Katy shirt.

A throw over poncho in a summer colour is another great alternative to the knit on a chilly evening or during the day. Immediately elegant and stylish try our Green siskin, a beautiful tweed with an aqua yellow and red window pane check. It’s lined in a beautiful turquoise satin to add to the summer vibe.

And of course, as it’s us I will always suggest a cute tweed waistcoat or stylish short jacket. I’m happily rocking my new aqua Chrissie with our ivory linen trousers, the cream linen piping ties in beautifully giving a co-ordinated look.

Whatever look you choose, don’t be dictated by the season, as tweed is a truly season less cloth.
